The history of judo club “Rijeka”
Judo club “Rijeka” was founded in 1959. by Eduard Hodžić. The club was operating in Italian Gymnasium’s sports hall till 1996, when it moved to “Dvorana mladosti” along with other TAD members (Weightlifting and Karate club “TAD” Rijeka). After it moved, the club finally got adequate conditions to start working with larger groups.
Throughout its rich history the club produced large number of successful exercisers. The club has been winning medals on national and international tournaments. Also, we have our members competing for the representation. Today, the club has 4 trainers.
It is important to mention that the club has been competing under Slovenian league with great success, since Croatia didn’t have its own league back then, who won bronze in 1989. Mirko Juretić, Branimir Pavković, Raul Tramontana, Krešimir Skitarelić, Vladimir Gržanić, Slaviša Bradić are members who had been regularly winning medals on national tournaments.
Danijel Waldvogel, Saša Pupovac, Petar Čegar, Luka Lekić, Jakša Pavković, Ivan Bušić, Aleksandro Obrovac, Matija Seki distinguish themselves nowadays, and are continually achieving notable results. Many of them compete as representatives on a regular basis.
